Elementary, abstract forms are a ubiquitous presence. They can be found in architecture, decoration, advertising, alphabets...Indeed the elementary shapes encountered across writing systems, traditional decorations and architecture, all find their origin in the organic world.

The focus of my work has always been the re/construction of the often unsuspected paths that abstract shapes have traveled from their roots in the organic realm.

Hence my increasing fascination, in my most recent body of work, with maps. In maps, abstract lines transfigure, and yet co-exist with organic shapes, in a continuum effort of representation that presents us with a suggestive, if uneasy, coexistence of the abstract and organic, the opposite poles of our visual experience.
